The Northbrook8 learning experience continues as I Social Networking, Social Bookmarking and Wikis to the Northbrook community portal.

I downloaded an electronic book and learned that some books can be burned to a CD. This information can be determined by indicators like legends on the book titles. I choose one that could be burned to a CD and was able to listen to it in my car. Pretty cool.

I've created IM and Flikr input and learned a lot through this introduction to web tools.

I spent a while today waiting for the next snowstorm by learning how to use Flickr and uploading a photo. It was easy and interesting. I entitled the photo Northbrook Toboggan Hill, and then tagged it with the word "Sledding". Then I came to find out there are 52,822 photos on Flickr tagged with that word! I think I will continue to use this site in the future, it's pretty interesting.

Early Thoughts

So I've created a new blog for myself and my postings. It certainly was easy but initially it
seems just a giant exercise in narcissism. Are there really people with so little to do they spend their days reading blogs? I guess I need to spend some time myself and at least develop enough
experience with blogs and blogging to have a better perspective before judging. But the possibility of blogs replacing newspapers is a scary thought.
Blogs do provide an apparently easy and universal method for exchanging comments, suggestions, asking questions, etc., between customers or clients or patrons and the business, institution or agency they interact with.
Has the Northbrook Public Library published it's blog site and marketed it to patrons? If so I personally have missed this effort.
